Twitter Pakistan Project

Yes, it was, once again, Yasir, introducing an ignorant person like me to Twitter.

Just as was expected, his few lines of compliments about this technology, got extended to a full blow, session about the Twitter and its working mechanics.

Initially, I was impressed and then got inspired by the very core idea behind this thing; which on the face of it does not look that big!! . Indeed, Twitter’s(http://twitter.com) sleak look is one thing but the integration part of web with the GSM devices is totally amazing. But the end result of this amalgamation is what can be called the fruit of it!!

The freedom to express everything, anytime, anywhere. A single thought, a sentence, a proverb, a verse, a quotation, a wow!!! by anything i literally mean anything in no time!!!

But, this is Pakistan! and the GSM network operators over here, even though they are making money like hell, are somewhat slow in adopting the new trends and mediums in developing more connected world. Yes, I know, you may be a victim of being too much connected but hey! this is technology!!

So the Twitter didn’t receive a welcome gesture from Pakistan’s GSM service providers (and I know eventually you will hate it, let me admit it first! ). One thing also to be noted here that there are other issues like Internal Budgetary constraints for Twitter to not pursue it as well, as its evident from their services cut back in Europe due to the same problem.

But, our tech geeks, sitting in LUMS, launching public journalism based tech-initiatives like See & Report (http://www.seenreport.com) did the magic this time and here is the Twitter’s tweeting available to all across Pakistan, on any network, just by using the free services of ISMSPK (http://isms.pk).
Oh God!! I thought, I would write less as an intro but…

Anyways, its almost 2 AM in the morning and I have already opened my isms.pk account.

The procedure is simple.

Go to your isms.pk account (if you have one, otherwise curse either yourself for not having it already or drop a request for one at isms.pk and Yasir will surely come out to help you! Don’t you Yasir???). There on the top left hand side, look for the Twitter tab/portion (I would say so!! as practically its not a tab!! ) and from there onwards, steps are simple. Just follow the instructions and finally when you have setup your Twitter/ISMSPK account, Twitter will sugest you to invite your friends from GMAIL/YAHOO/HOTMAIL etc accounts so that you can easily communicate with them.
